United Methodist Museum of Arkansas

The United Methodist Museum of Arkansas (UMMA) is a project of the United Methodist Museum of Arkansas Committee (a standing committee of the United Methodist Historical Society of Arkansas, Inc.). The Museum's purpose is to collect, preserve, hold title to, catalog, and display objects which are relevant to the history of Arkansas United Methodism and its antecedent organizations.

The United Methodist Museum of Arkansas collects materials in the following categories:
  1. Three dimensional objects which are historically significant to Arkansas United Methodist history, such as: church furnishings, personal items used by Methodist clergy and other church leaders, commemorative items, objects related to corporate worship, and educational objects.

  2. The Board collects portraits and group pictures of the leadership figures in Arkansas Area Methodism, accounts and photographs of historical events, and photographs of historical sites that are significant to Arkansas Area Methodism.

  3. The Board does not usually accept written or printed materials since these are normally accepted at the United Methodist Archives in the library of Hendrix College, Conway, Arkansas.

The committee reserves the right to accept or reject materials based on the criteria outlined in this collection development policy. Materials not accepted may be returned to the donor, or, with his/her permission, sold and the proceeds used to enhance the museum collection.

Absolute ownership of the property is vested In the United Methodist Museum of Arkansas Committee. Restrictions on use of materials will conform to relevant sections of the Discipline and federal or state laws. Donor imposed restrictions must be mutually agreed upon by the donor and the museum Board prior to acceptance of the materials
